ACCOMPANYING STUDENTS & FAMILIES TO
CLOSER COMMUNION WITH CHRIST
The ORE develops and maintains teaching standards for religious education in diocesan parishes and schools, publishes the Bishop's approved curricula series.
The ORE publishes the Bishop's guidelines for sacramental preparation, and works to assist pastors and parish coordinators in the work of bringing people closer to Christ and into the sacramental life of His Church. This includes assisting with preparation for First Communion, Confirmation, and for the Sacraments of Initiation received through the Rite of Christian Initation for Adults, the RCIA.
The ORE assists parishes in implementing safe environment training for students in religious education and sacramental preparation programs. On this website, documents for safe environment training may be downloaded for use with students, catechists, administrators, and parents. To keep in compliance with USCCB standards, parish pastors and coordinators submit annual safe environment reports to the ORE.
"The whole concern of doctrine and its teaching must be directed to the love that never ends. Whether something is proposed for belief, for hope or for action, the love of our Lord must always be made accessible, so that anyone can see that all the works of perfect Christian virtue spring from love and have no other objective than to arrive at love."
- Prologue to the Catechism, CCC 25; Roman Catechism Preface 10
The Diocese of Birmingham Office of Religious Education (ORE), following the pastoral leadership and initiatives of the Bishop, serves those involved in parish religious education and faith formation programs to assist in accomplishing the goal of catechesis, leading people closer to Christ and deeper into the sacramental life of his Church. The ORE supports the catechetical leaders and the catechists of this diocese, as they in turn lead and accompany their students and families on the journey of faith.
